Assistance & Incentives
The Town of Hamden is focused on developing its commercial tax base, increasing job opportunities and improving the quality of life in its neighborhoods. The Town of Hamden does this through the many programs and services offered though the Town’s long-range Economic Development Plan.
Since 1998, the department has implemented a comprehensive, long-range Economic Development Plan, putting initiatives into action through several business incentives and programs for new and existing businesses in Town. The Town offers numerous benefits through its business incentive program and provides linkage to numerous commercial lenders.
The Town of Hamden has allocated a portion of its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for a commercial rehabilitation grant program in support of business improvements in the Community Development Target Areas. Buildings will be considered eligible for this program if they are located within a commercially zoned area of a Community Development Target Area of Census Tract 1651, 1655, or 1656, established by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development and the Town of Hamden Community Development Advisory Commission Qualified applicants may receive up to $10,000 in assistance. Commercial rehabilitation activities must be limited to improvements to the exterior of the building and correction of code violations. This category can include building facades, masonry, brick repointing, awning improvements, lighting, ADA improvements, entrance repair, restoration of architectural details etc. Commercial Corridor Revitalization Grant Program Application. The Commercial Sign Improvement Program provides grants for replacement or refurbishment of business signage to enhance physical appearance of commercial corridors and increase business marketing opportunities to commercial establishments located in the Community Development Block Grant Target Area of Census Tract 1651, 1655, or 1656. The Office of Housing and Neighborhood Development will reimburse the cost of new signage for a total of up to a maximum of $2,000.00 per business. Small Business Sign Grant Application.
